A MORNING AT GLACIER WAY
The following is representative of a typical day at Glacier Way.
9:10 Arrival: Coat & backpack are hung in cubby. We greet each other.
Morning work: Students complete “morning work” on the circle time carpet.
9:20 Circle Time: First circle includes a “hello” song, a brief calendar (rote counting), a story, and a quick introduction to what is available in the classroom that day.
9:30-10:45 Centers: Students choose the centers they would like to work on. They move and rotate through the centers at their own pace. Teacher and assisting parents engage with students at the centers.
10:45 Clean-up: The clean-up bell will ring, and the clean-up song will be played. Students return toys and supplies to the shelves and meet at circle.
10:55 Circle Time: Second circle’s focus will be on music & movement, and a short thematic lesson.
11:05 Hand Washing and Snack: After washing their hands, the students will retrieve their snacks from their cubbies. Once finished with their snack, they will pack up their items and return them to their cubby and dispose of any trash. They will then chose a book to read while waiting for their friends to finish up.
11:20 Circle Time: During the final circle we will review a literary or math skill, talk about our theme of the day, play a carpet game.
11:30 Outside Play: Weather permitting, students will head outside.
12:00 Dismissal
*In the beginning of the year, circle times will be very short. As the children learn the routine and their attention spans expand, circle times will gradually lengthen to look more like the schedule above.
